Professional photographer Ted Adnan has led 40+ participants to explored fresh new ways to shoot glamour portrait. At times, Ted had the crowd in stitches with his interesting and humourous teaching style. However, everyone present would definitely agree that Ted does put his money where his mouth is. Aver Awards August Lepak Corner this month has given participants chance to shoot macros of tiny creatures in e@curve. Professional photographer Teng Wei was again called upon to share his vast expertise in photography with the eager participants. At first, some of the participants were squeamish as he produced a bag of worms that was bought from a local pet shop. Using a macro lens and a few Nissin and Metz flashguns, he showed the participants how best to shoot such an uninteresting subject such as worms, to turn ordinary things into interesting photographs. Representatives from Fotoman Marketing Sdn Bhd (distributor of Voigtlander lenses in Malaysia) and Schmidt Marketing Sdn Bhd (distributor of Nissin and Metz flashguns) were also present with their range of products for participants to try out during the event. Total of around 20 participants came for the eventm and they were duly rewarded by receiving personal tutelage from Teng Wei.

This time, Professional Photographer Teng Wei has led the participants as they explored fresh new ways to shoot macros of a flower. Some 30+ photographers attended the event and thanks to Teng Wei’s expert assistance most of the participants walked away with some great looking shoots.

April’s lepak corner was held again for the topic of timing and accuracy in Aver Awards e@Curve outlet. Professional photographer, Teng Wei was appointed to be speaker and participants had a great learning experience and fun. Teng Wei taught participants how to manipulate the flashes to capture the water droplets. Using a plastic bag filled with water drop and some colored paper to create different coloured background  when capturing the splash.

Teng Wei encouraged participants to use a tripod to capture clearer image. Through explanation had been carried out about the set-up and how to control the flash. Participants then took turns shooting the droplets. Everyone got a hands-on practice on manipulating the flashes. The next Lepak Corner will be held at e@Curve on 15th of May 2011 with the topic of “Portrait on Rain”.

Topic – Creative Still Life

Aver Awards had our monthly Lepak Corner again and this time around, the topic was Creative Still-Life. Working together with professional photographer, Sanjitpaal Singh, participants had an opportunity to learn and shoot still-life. Sanjit planned three activities on that day. First; creating heart-shaped shadows with a ring, Second; capturing liquid splashes and third; shooting commercial still-life. Sanjit taught the participants on how to manipulate lightings to create stunning images and also how to properly place different products to bring out the beauty in them. Everyone had a hands-on experience handling the equipments needed to shoot still-life images. Giving a step-by-step guidance, the participants got a thorough understanding of the basics of shooting still-life and what are the major concerns that commonly occur when shooting them. Great promotional deals for various products were given to those who joined us that day.

As an annual promotion, we have actually delegate this annual activity into 3 different categories. There are

9 different items for each category were selling at RM 9.90, RM 99 and RM  999.

3. Charity Drive

All proceeds collected for the sale of Polo T-Shirt (RM29.90) & Giant Mug (RM19.90) will be donated to Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled.

The grand prize was given at Sunway Giza which total awards worth RM 9,999. hereby the photo that our advisor NS Tan deliver the gifts and donations to Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled.

Our participants were taught about the creative use of light and flashes.

Aver Awards had their monthly Lepak Corner again and this time around, the topic was Creative Flash. Teng Wei, Professional travel photographer was invited as the guest speaker to cover three subtopics under Creative Flash; second curtain sync and backlighting. The participants were taught how to operate flashes using transmitters and the Pocket Wizard. It was a really interesting experience for all as slow-sync and second-curtain sync applications are not commonly used. Incorporating in the day’s lesson, Teng Wei also taught the participants about light painting and how to produce stunning images with these creative uses of light. Every participant got an opportunity to set up their camera to the lighting system and have a hand on experience synchronizing the flashes. Teng Wei was there to give personal guidance to every participant. Great promotional deals for various products from Aver Awards were specially given to participants that joined us on that day too.

Nearly 2 dozens photo enthusiasts turned up for the fourth Lepak Corner session that is presented by Aperture N Shutter dealership, a subsidiary of Aver Awards Group of Companies. The latest event was held at its outlet located inside level 1 of the newly-opened IT Centre in Berjaya Times Square. The topic on discussion was about using and setting Manual Exposure with your DSLR, lenses and flash. The event was coordinated by me and assistance from 3 coordinators – Andy Gohm Fazari Madehi and Andrew Khoo. As a bonus to these customers as well as readers of Digital SLR Photography Malaysia magazine, there was also a studio shooting session with a model, Jane Kwan, to gauge the effectiveness of the manual exposure techniques which the participants have learn.

 

DIY Outdoor Portrait Session

Aver Awards and Digital SLR Photography have co-organised another successful DIY session last month, with the latest centred on Outdoor Portraits for photo enthusiasts. The informal event, also known as “Lepak Corner” session was held within the compound and surrounding area of Aver Awards’ upcoming Bazaar outlet located at Cova Square in Kota Damansara. The photo enthusiasts ranged from customers of Aver Awards as well as readers of this magazine. 3 models were provided for the 2-day shooting session. The participants were shown how to use reflectors, how to pose the models, setting the right white balance and getting the best composition out of the session.
